UX Design for an application

During my UX/UI design Google Coursera courses, I embarked on an extremely fun project to develop an album pre-order app for one of my favorite bands, The Dollyrots. I delved into the design thinking process, following the established best practices at Google. This comprehensive methodology guided me through a series of crucial steps:
You can find my thinking process below, along with everything I created during the course.
Empathize
I began by immersing myself in the world of the fans, seeking to understand their needs, aspirations, and pain points. Through in-depth personas, interviews, surveys, and social media analysis, I gained valuable insights into their preferences for album pre-order experiences.
This will include:
- Personas
- User Stories
- User Journeys.
Define
Armed with a deep understanding of the user base, I defined the problem at hand, articulating the challenges faced by fans in the existing album pre-order process, and highlighting issues such as limited access to exclusive content, cumbersome payment procedures, and a lack of personalization.
This will include:
- Problem statement
- Value proposition.
Ideate
With creativity, I worked on a brainstorming session, generating several potential solutions. I explored ideas ranging from interactive album previews to gamified pre-order incentives, all while keeping the user’s needs at the forefront.
This will include:
- Crazy 8s example
- User Flow
- Big-picture Storyboard
- User Interaction Storyboard
Prototype
With a few promising ideas in hand, I transitioned into the prototyping phase, transforming my concepts into tangible representations. I crafted low-fidelity prototypes using paper and sketches, allowing for rapid iterations and feedback from fellow designers who were also working on this course and potential users. I also learned how to use Figma to create low-fidelity prototypes.
This will include:
- Wireframes
- Mockups
- Flow
Test
To validate the effectiveness of my designs, I conducted unmoderated user testing sessions, observing how fans interacted with the prototypes. I gathered valuable feedback on usability, intuitiveness, and overall satisfaction, enabling me to refine my designs further.
Through this iterative design thinking process, I successfully developed an album pre-order app that seamlessly integrated the needs of The Dollyrot’s fans with their unique artistic vision, solidifying my commitment to user-centered design principles.
